Colin R Laing 1997-1998 and Gwen Laing 1914-2001

I would think that this is a rare combination of
photos and Facebook screenshots.
I am pretty ashamed to admit that I have been
unable to place the pics and printed matter
in any sort of order, making this page look
more like a child's scrapbook. There are two
possible reasons, one is that I am
using an older version of blogger or my
skills need updating!

Residency Cem: What else lies buried here!

SACRED
TO THE
MEMORY
OF
FRANCES ELLEN HALE
THE BELOVED WIFE OF
GEORGE HERBERT HALE
LIEUTT ADJ ????
WHO DIED IN LUCKNOW GARRISON ON THE MORNING
OF THE BATTLE
OF CHINHUT 1857 AGED 20 YEARS
SACRED ALSO
(SORRY THE REST IS BURIED!)
The pics are of an area of
the Residency Cemetery
that was inaccessible for decades because of the thick undergrowth.
I cannot remember walking here ever. Seeing that the
headstones are buried deep
one can guess that this
area was used to dump
debris that was cleared
from around the ruins
decades ago. That makes one
wonder what else lies buried
here!!

The Residency Cemetery (Sun May 17, 2015)

Sunday May 17, 2015 had a bright sun shining down, being
after 9 am which wasn't ideal for photography, however,
it was a relief to find that the Residency Cemetery had
after been cleaned up. It's been a few months
since my last visit.

EME HEMISFEIR
DIED CIR 1933

(I thought the name unusual and
found I was right when I checked
the net! The FIBIS database had
recorded just a handful Hemisfeirs:
Leo Hemisfeir Lucknow 1905 (from)
the St Francis College register, then
there was Thomas Hemisfeir marriage
to Charlotte Brooks, 1888 and Thomas
Michael Hemisfeir marriage 1901-1905
to Alice Mohan. There might have
been a couple of more but I failed to
discover the name Eme Hemisfeir!!)

INFANT SON OF MR AND MRS G.A. DOWLING

(Fibis database lists three George A Dowlings:
1. is from the Mutiny records: George A Dowling, Private, 38th Foot (1st Staffordshire), 2 and 3 are marriage records from the Bengal register: George A Dowling married Mary S Johnson, 1865 and George A Dowling married Eliza Callaghan, 1876 which makes one wonder whether these are one and the same!!)
